Grandma’s Mian Tiao

Noodles, 面条 (mian tiao) are the symbol of longevity in Chinese culture. Since noodles do symbolize long life, it is considered very unlucky to cut up a strand.

Nastar (Indonesian Pineapple Tarts)

Pineapple tarts is a must during a celebratory period in Indonesia. And especially during this Chinese New Year, it’s everywhere!! And we love them to bits.

Nian Gao

One of the things eaten during Chinese New Year is nian gao, translated as year cake. It is considered good luck to eat it during Chinese New Year.

So far, she has never missed a single year!

Homemade Cultured Butter & Buttermilk

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKphuetr66w] We’ve never realized how easy it was to make your own butter til we tried it! Plus, we got buttermilk out of it too, which are great for pancakes and biscuits! Making pancakes with buttermilk will make it oh so fluffy. We swear by it.

OH MY GOD!!!!! IT’S -16ºC OUTSIDE!!!!!! I didn’t really go out, other than like literally 2 steps out of the door just to put bottles and cans in the recycling bin. And within those few steps, I was already halfway frozen. On a cold day like this, I always need warm meals. Maybe spicy too....
